Robert Carl Burton, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Tennova Hospital in Knoxville. He was born August 24, 1933 to John Burton and Pauline Burton. He married Barbara Sharp on February 10, 1967 and they were married for nearly 60 years. Robert worked for BellSouth – AT&T for over 41 years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 56 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Robert was a lifelong jokester who loved life, his family, and his friends.
Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara; a sister, Kathy Hopkins; his daughters, Kim Scattergood and Jamie Irons; a son, John Burton; and the love of his life, his grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jessica Valentine and Wesley and Madison Irons.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Burton The Great touched are invited to his visitation on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Jones Mortuary from 12 noon to 2pm with his funeral service to immediately follow in the chapel with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. Robert’s entombment will immediately follow his funeral service at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton, TN. Jones Mortuary in Clinton, TN is in charge of all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his name.
