JR Mason left this world for his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He left us in his way - quick, easy & peaceful! He was an amazing man, full of life with the biggest heart! He never met a stranger and everyone he met he loved like family. His "adopted" family fought for his #1 spot and it became a joke among friends. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, loved parties, cooking for his family and placing some coins on Red 19! As we remember his feistiness, candor and humor we are comforted with the special memories we have shared including how he loved fishing, enjoying his latest toy his 1989 Jeep, spending time at Dark Island, family vacations, adventures (some more riveting than others) and all the laughs & love we shared!
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lucy Mason, brothers (Goldie and Olen), sisters (Betty Jo Jones, Jean Graves, Bennie Ramsey, and Irene Landtrip) and his Dark Island Campground partner in crime Dean Key.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Glenda Faye Mason. His son Andy Mason & wife Amy, his daughters Amy Setzkorn, Robin & husband Gene Hunter and Ginger & husband Greg Fields. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Kerri Shaye Gordon, Chase Hunter, Dillon & Carson Mason, and Drew & Ali Mason. Drew and Ali were the loves of his life. He spent countless hours with them telling funny stories and teaching life's lessons.
He also leaves behind several family members including sisters (Eulene Coffey, Ruth Orrick, and Shirley Burkhardt), brothers (Carl and Ken), his Dark Island Campground family, his Elite Realty family including his lunch buddy & friend Karen Bradshaw.
A celebration of life for JR will be Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from at 2101 Council Fire Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following: Dark Island Campground, 7836 Carnes Road Townsend TN 37882, and be sure the put in "memory of JR", and Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels, 3509 Tuckaleechee Pike Maryville TN 37803. The family would like to thank all their friends and family for the prayers, food donations, encouraging cards and thoughtful gestures during this difficult time.
