George Henry Roberts, Capt. USAF Retired, age 81 of Powell, TN formerly of Heiskell passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in Knoxville, TN. George spent 22 years 11 months & 8 days serving in the
U. S. Air Force & was very proud of his military career which included time in Vietnam. While in the Air Force he worked as a Nuclear Reactor Systems Tech, Radio Communications Tech, & an Electrical Systems Officer. During his civilian career he worked for Millers Department Store in the Maintenance Department, Modine Manufacturing, & Precision Disc Corporation. George retired in 1990 to enjoy his combined family, woodworking, engraving, & traveling. He attended Black Oak Baptist Church in Clinton, TN & also made many visits to Second Baptist Church in Clinton. George was preceded in death by his parents, Karl Hampton Roberts & Helen Gould Fulton Roberts; brothers, Wade, Robert, & Carl Roberts & sisters, Ruth Beth Roberts Bray Willard & Mary Fulton Roberts Bragg.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Dorris Roberts-Powell, TN; daughters, Ginger Roberts (Denny Hatcher)-Audubon, PA, Cindy Roberts (Jean Louis Flechon)-Zurich, Switzerland, & Gretchen Roberts-Lenoir City, TN; step sons, Douglas Cooper (Jenny)-Clinton, TN, Gregory Cooper (Carole)-Oak Ridge, TN; brother, Joe Roberts (Lona)-Wise, VA; sister, Martha Ann Holifield (Jim)-Denver, CO; grandchildren, Tommy Lynn Avelar (Philip)-Trooper, PA, Forrest & Hannah Easterly-Knoxville, TN, Sonya & Eloise Flechon-Zurich, Switzerland, Brittainy Cooper Barger (Eric)-Clinton, TN, Alexis Cooper-Clinton, TN, G. Brandon Cooper-Oak Ridge, TN, Sammie & Zac Cooper-Clinton, TN & 5 great grandsons.

George's family will receive his friends on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2pm - 4pm with his Celebration of Life immediately following at 4pm in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with Rev. Larry Pugh officiating. His interment will be Monday, May 19, 2014 at 9:30am at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN with full military honors. Jones Mortuary in Clinton, TN is in charge of all arrangements.
