Edward A. Hooks, 77, of Hickory, went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2016 at Sherrill's Ford Hospice House. Born January 27, 1939 in Heiskell, TN, he was the son of the late Clyde William Hooks and Margaret Maybelle Collins Hooks.
A dedicated Christian and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory, NC, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and their activities. Edward enjoyed serving in his church in the bus ministry and was a great fan of the University of Tennessee football and basketball teams. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Eagle Bend Mfg Co. in Clinton, TN.
Edward is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Haney Hooks of the home; son, Pastor Scott Hooks and wife Melanie of Hickory; grandchildren, Kaleigh Hooks Cruse and husband Andrew, Connor Hooks, Chandler Hooks, Averie Hooks, and Maci Hooks; brothers, Delbert Hooks and wife Betty of Luttrell, TN, Robert "Bobby" Hooks of Heiskell, TN and Joe Hooks of Heiskell, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory with Pastor Scott Hooks and Pastor Brian Odham officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. prior to the service.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church in Powell, TN from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery in Heiskell, TN with Pastor Clarence Sexton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Tabernacle Baptist Church and Christian School, 1225 29th Ave Dr. NE, Hickory, NC 28601 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
