Edith Mae Goeppinger Byers of Clinton, TN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at her home in Clinton. Edith was born on May 1, 1914 in Warren, Ohio. She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1933 and attended Capital University in Ohio as well as Chicago Institute of Art in Indiana. During her life, Edith lived in many states including Ohio, Florida, Louisiana, and Tennessee. She was a productive artist who worked in water colors, oils, fabrics, and pottery doing landscapes, portraits, figurines, and dishes. While living in Florida she was always close to water and enjoyed beach combing, boating, and being outdoors. While living in Tennessee she enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains and working with mountain arts. Edith and her husband, Wiley, were married for 58 years and greatly enjoyed traveling throughout North America by car, RV, and travel trailer. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward M. Goeppinger; mother, Lida V. Brobst Goeppinger ; step mother, Eleanor Goeppinger; and husband, Wiley Wilson Byers Sr.; sister, Dorothy Goeppinger Bonfert and brother-in-law Guston Bonfert.
Edith is survived by her son, Wiley “Pete” Wilson Byers Jr. and daughter-in-law, Janet “Jan” Ruth Devlin Byers both of Powell, TN; grandson, Benjamin “Ben” Wiley Byers of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter, Catherine “Catie” Janet Byers Hanna and great granddaughter, Meghan Elizabeth Hanna both of Peters Township, PA; niece, Barbara Jean Bonfert Stoddard of New Smyrna, FL and great niece, Shelley Stoddard of FL.
Edith’s family will have a Celebration of Life service on Friday, January, 8, 2016 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton, TN.
