Calvin Phillips age 76 of Lake City, TN passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Tennova Lafollette Medical Center in Lafollette, TN. He loved reading the bible, was of the Baptist faith and a minister who evangelized at many churches until his illness allowed him not to. Calvin enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. He was his own mechanic, and never depended on other mechanics to work on his cars.
The family would like to thank Dr. Elie Mansour, and the staff at Tennova Lafollette Medical Center for taking very good care of Calvin during his stay in the hospital.
Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, Flem and Dora Phillips; brothers, Jr. Phillips, Lonas Phillips, Dennis Phillips; sisters, Eleanor Lindsay, and Betty Stooksbury; and son in law, Clyde Watson Jr.
Calvin is survived by wife of 52 years, Opal Phillips of Lake City, TN; son, Adam Phillips and wife, Bonnie of Lake City, TN; daughters, Eva Butler and husband, William of Jacksboro, TN, and Thelma Watson of Lake City, TN; brothers, Harry Phillips of Andersonville, TN, Eli Phillips of Lake City, TN, Murdis Phillips of Lake City, TN, Johnny Phillips and wife, Thelma of Lake City, James Phillips of Griffith, IN; sister, Mary Morales of Caryville, TN; 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, sister in law, Joann Sampsell and husband, Val of Caryville, TN, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Calvin’s family will receive his friends from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 28, 2016, with his funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with Rev. Alvis Richardson officiating. Calvin’s interment will follow his service at Norris Memorial Gardens in Norris, TN. Jones Mortuary in Clinton, TN is in charge of all arrangements.
